Foundation Phase Teacher

Final-year Foundation Phase Education student at Stellenbosch University with practicum experience in Quintile 1–3 and private schools. Proficient in Afrikaans and English, with academic training in isiXhosa Communication and a focus on multilingual, culturally responsive pedagogy.

Academic interests include early literacy development, particularly strategies that foster sustained reading engagement, and mathematics pedagogy that strengthens conceptual understanding and learner agency.

Teaching is informed by a calm, consistent, and relational orientation that creates inclusive classroom environments, encouraging curiosity, confidence, and sustained participation. Committed to evidence-based practice and reflective pedagogy that bridges theory and practice in the Foundation Phase.

Teaching Experience

Rhenish Primary School (Grade 3)

Jul – Sep 2025 (8 - week practicum)

Taught English, Afrikaans, and Mathematics to lower ability group of learners. Adapted lessons for multilingual learners in an under-resourced school. Lesson planning and execution. Assisting the students who needed extra help completing work. Accompanying learners to library and PE classes and assisting in these lessons. Assisted in netball as extra mural activity.

St Vincent’s Primary School (Grade 2)

Mar - May 2025 (Service learning project)

Taught English, Life Skills and Mathematics. Assisted in the extra-curricular programs of music and art. Actively participated in the day-to-day teaching process, which included presenting lessons, marking learners’ books, and assessing reading proficiency using EGRA.
